Dinosaur Eggs:

As our Dinosaur project took place close to Easter time, the students curiosity was naturally peaked by the concept of eggs. The students were thrilled to learn that dinosaurs, like other reptiles, had their young from eggs. We spent a long time discussing what dinosaur eggs would look like, and eventually decided to create our own using paper maché.

We started with a balloon. We added several layers of newsprint and paper maché paste to the balloon.
After a heated debate, we decided that we could paint the eggs any color we wanted- after all, no one really knows what color the dinosaur eggs were! The students who chose yellow soon regretted their decision. It didn't take long before they realized that they would have extra work- after only one layer of paint, they could still see the newspaper beneath. They ended up having to paint 2-3 layers.
When we were finished, we decided the eggs needed a nest until they were ready to hatch. We decided that the water table would do just fine. Now where could we find a dinosaur to sit on them???
